MGC Futures Bursary

I am a recipient of the 2019 Michael Grandage Futures Bursary to develop a new piece of work.

MGC Futures funded the research and development stages of a new project looking into the history and impact of the Asian Family Counselling Service founded by Rani Atma in 1985 out of the lack of specific social support for people from South Asian communities in crisis in the UK.

I am researching through interviews with people who have worked in the AFCS throughout it’s history and in it’s current iteration.

I would like to speak to people from British South Asian communities who have had a need for the social care service ‘Relate’, and who subsequently were or were not referred on to the ‘Asian Family Counselling Service’. Service users have been referred due to the following issues: forced marriage, domestic abuse, relationship breakdowns, grooming of young women. If you have experienced any of these issues and either did or didn’t get the help that you needed - please get in touch.
